Former NCIS agent Ezekial (Zeke) Jones is a broken man. His life has been one of loneliness since his parents abandoned him on the steps of a convent. His only friends are the nun who took him in and a hardened agent who give him love and usher into adulthood.

Wounded during a bust gone bad, he’s released by the Navy into an unwanted medical retirement. Haunted by the loss of his partner, he and his border collie, Lobo, are facing a future untethered from the only life he’s known.

As he ponders his future, he’s surprised to find that an uncle he never known existed has bequeathed a bookstore to him. The only problem is the bookstore is located on an island off the coast of Washington far from the only family he’s ever known.

After deciding to jump into a new career, he finds he’s also the father of a precocious nine-year-old. And, the child’s mother is dying! She begs Zeke to care for Maxine.

Zeke, Maxine and Lobo head off to their new home in a picturesque town, an idyllic island setting where they make new friends and settle into island life. But, the island has dark undertones that soon draw them in. It’s up to Zeke to protect his daughter and their friends from the evil around them.
