What is the most challenging part of writing for you?
The most challenging part of writing for me is maintaining consistency and momentum throughout the drafting process. It’s easy to get excited about a new idea, but keeping that energy up through the middle and end of the book can be difficult.
How do you research for your books?
I conduct extensive research for my books, often starting with academic articles and historical documents. I also try to interview experts or people with firsthand experience related to my topic. Visiting relevant locations can also provide valuable insights and inspiration.
Do you have any rituals or routines that help you write?
I have a few rituals that help me get into the writing zone. I like to start my day with a cup of coffee and some quiet time to think about my writing goals. I also find that listening to music that matches the mood of my story helps me stay focused and inspired.
How do you handle criticism and feedback on your work?
I handle criticism by trying to see it as an opportunity to improve. It can be tough to hear negative feedback, but I remind myself that constructive criticism can help me grow as a writer. I take time to process the feedback and decide which suggestions will make my work stronger.
Who are some of your favorite authors and how have they influenced your writing?
Some of my favorite authors include Toni Morrison, Gabriel García Márquez, and Haruki Murakami. Their ability to weave complex narratives with rich, evocative language has greatly influenced my own writing style. I admire their ability to create worlds that feel both magical and profoundly real.
What inspired you to become a writer?
I’ve always loved stories, even from a young age. I was inspired to become a writer by my love of reading and the desire to create my own worlds and characters. The idea of connecting with others through my words was incredibly appealing to me.
How do you deal with self-doubt as a writer?
Dealing with self-doubt is a constant challenge. I try to remind myself of past successes and the positive feedback I’ve received. I also talk to other writers who can relate to my struggles, and this helps me feel less alone. Ultimately, I focus on the joy of writing rather than the fear of failure.
What do you think makes a good story?
A good story, in my opinion, is one that captivates the reader’s attention and resonates emotionally. It should have well-developed characters, a compelling plot, and themes that provoke thought and discussion. A good story leaves a lasting impression and makes the reader feel something deeply.
