Wishes of the dead

Friday 30th of August 2024

And if today I breath,My final breathe. If by good luck I depart today,To the land of no return.Do not weep, dear brothers.Do not mourn,I beg you!For I would have been promoted! And like a soldier battlng for his people,I would be fighting for your grandchildren,I would be purifying the atmosphere,For your upcoming generations.I would be rebuking the evil spirits,That have polluted the air,For the good of your upcoming generations!Listen to me,dear brothers,Incase I depart today,Do not wish me fare well,I do not need those fare well wishes,To fight against the spirits of poverty,To battle against the spirits of corruption,That are filling the air!I need those machetes, please!Bury my body with ...

THERE WAS A COUNTRY

Tuesday 27th of August 2024

There was a country where once…

all the flowers were cut, and children’s toys lost their magic.

Where hate was the daily bread.

There was a country where once…

God was banished…

God was banished…

God was banished…

Leaf Angel by Chantal Bellehumeur

Friday 23rd of August 2024

(This poem was originally published in the arts section of The Suburban Newspaper's website) I hid my sadness behind a fake smileraking coloured leaves into a neat pileI didn't know why I wanted to cryon this nice fall day with a clear blue skyThe tears just randomly crept up on mebut I thought it best not to set them freeThinking back to happy times as a childI decided to have fun and go wildI looked at the big leaf pile I just madeand decided to act like a grenadeWithout a care in the world I jumped ininstantly forgetting my chagrinI threw a bunch of leaves into the airthen let them fall into my face and hairThe stern neighbours' reaction made me giggleand I laughed more at the leaves...

Not a De ja vu

Friday 16th of August 2024

The poet persona made use of a first person plural narrative technique, to converse with his fellow citizens to have a childlike protest an ongoing protest. He implores the citizen clamouring as one voice, to be tuned (a fearsome crescendo) to the extent that even the voiceless (citizens with no power{dumbs}, or with little power{twisted tongues, stammerers}) should be given voices (to contribute) to speak to the government (the dead deaf) who might know not what the majority are going through. To tell them what we are asking for is our right, visibly readable in our raised placard, (brailled in our raised hands) they should let food be affordable and enough, our mined crude oil be...

In my arms

Friday 16th of August 2024

A poem that is rich in imagery and the use of extended metaphors, aimed at the lover of the poet persona. The poet persona expresses himself in the first line of the first stanza in an imaginary place very far away from his lover ( a moon with an edge does not exist), seeing through his open concentrated mind, his lover in her room embracing their good memories. He expresses his words with live images such as a feather and a dove in the second stanza. The former is known for being light and soft, and the latter known for its tranquility, both are the attributes of a whisper, would reach her from his far imaginary place to her room. That they meeting is inevitable, as time is only w...

G-Style

Thursday 8th of August 2024

You are so clever, punctual, ambitious,And you are always playing certain role,But your reaction is malign and viciousWhen something is beyond your control. You use your politeness to bewitch the othersPoliteness is a weapon, not a kind of grace,Cause other people cannot be your friends and brothersThey're too imperfect, polluting your place. You think you're better than the whole mankind,You think determination is your rightYour narcisism you care as for your childAnd watch it growing up with such delight.Your car gets more affection than your wifeUnlike her it is giving you more pleasure. You're even ready to pull up a knifeIf someone dares to "hurt your precious treasure".However be aware of...

(Page 1) Reflections of anguish in the mirror of my soul,There was a whispery symphony of grief in the air.Love is a faraway memory that fades like dusk.Sorrowful raindrops fall, illuminating the streets at night.(Chorus)My heart begs you to wait in the echo of the past.A love that was once bright is now cast in shadows.Hatred lurks at the center like an unwanted guest.I want for love again as the tears pour down my face.(Page 2)I aimlessly stroll across the desolate streets.Looking for comfort, running away from the hurt. The wounds, engraved in my psyche, are reflected in the mirror. The pieces of love crumble under the rain of tears.(Chorus)My heart begs you to wait in the echo of the ...
